I call this building shape a "Lightdam". It was inspired while reading Terry Pratchet's Discworld novel. He talked of huge towers that caught the light and held it back. In the world he created light was seemingly thick and pliable. I imagined the dams of light to be some kind of semi-cylinder shaped to collect light. I have seen light-scoops and all manner of "devices". I do not like devices; at this stage I thought that architecture should be all aspects, and the building a single entity with no attached objects which accomplishes every requirement through a simple form. The dwelling fits within a cylinder cut in half and staggered. Its form holds the fresh morning light from the east and the warm evening sun from the west to reflect it within. Across the smooth, wide, concave walls. The steeper afternoon sun cascades through the central void, or winter diffused light radiates into it. It is as if the core of the house has been constructed from tangible light and absorbs solar heat. It is like a ghostly hearth with no physical presence but a noticeable effect.
